Feeding pumps can sometimes alarm or give error messages. This page will assist you in troubleshooting common alarms and error messages.

If you are just getting started with your feeding pump, see our page on Feeding Pumps and Sets. The Manuals and Tutorials linked in the sidebar will also help.

For a detailed guide with pictures to troubleshoot the Infinity Pump, download our Field Guide to the Moog Infinity Pump or Moog’s Troubleshooting Guide. For the Kangaroo Joey, try Covidien’s Troubleshooting Guide.

A common problem encountered with the pump is forgetting to Clear the Dose from the last feeding delivered. If the pump won’t run and continuously says it is done, make sure you clear the dose.

If your pump is not delivering the correct amount of formula, contact your home care company for a replacement.

Changing the Alarm Settings

Common Error Messages

Problem: Food has stopped flowing into the pump from the pump bag.

Solution: Find and fix the blockage. Is there food in the bag? If yes, press RUN/PAUSE or HOLD to pause the pump and look for kinks in the tubing between the pump bag and the pump, or where the tubing exits the feeding bag. Straighten kinks out of the tubing. Press RUN again. Listen for 3 beeps and look for RUN on the display; the pump is running. If the bag is empty, press RUN/PAUSE or HOLD to pause the pump. Refill and close bag, removing as much air as possible. Press RUN again. Look for RUN or the droplet on the display; the pump is running.

NOTE: Sometimes you get multiple alarms consecutively, even after fixing the source of the alarm. Pressing RUN/PAUSE or HOLD and then holding the PRIME button down for 5 seconds before pressing RUN again sometimes clears the problem. If problems continue, try using a new feed set and feeding bag.

Problem: Food has stopped flowing out of the pump.

Solution: Find and fix the blockage. Is the EXTENSION SET clamped? If yes, press RUN/PAUSE or HOLD to pause the pump, unclamp, and then press RUN again. Listen for 3 beeps and look for RUN on the display; the pump is running. If the extension set is not clamped, press RUN/PAUSE or HOLD and look for kinks in the tubing between the pump and the feeding tube. Straighten tubing. Also, make sure the extension set is not clogged or kinked. Press RUN again. Look for RUN or the droplet on the display; the pump is running. If this does not work, the tube may be clogged. Try flushing the tube or following the steps on our Tube Clogs page.

Problem: Air has gotten into the line from the bag.

Solution: Press RUN/PAUSE or HOLD to pause the pump. Reposition bag so food is at bottom of bag. Refill bag if necessary. If a large amount of air is present in the tubing, it may be necessary to disconnect the pump tubing from the extension tube before removing air from the tubing to avoid feeding air into the stomach. Press and hold PRIME until food moves through tubing coming out of pump. Press RUN again. Look for RUN or the droplet on the display; the pump is running.

Problem: Feed set is not loaded into pump.

Solution: Load feed set into pump. Press RUN/PAUSE or HOLD to pause the pump. Open door of pump by pushing on the tab above the display screen. Stretch tubing around the outside of the wheel. Fit plastic cassette into slots for the Infinity pump. Check that tubing is not obstructing the door. Close door tightly. Press RUN again. Look for RUN or the droplet on the display; the pump is running.

Problem: Door is open.

Solution: Press RUN/PAUSE or HOLD to pause the pump. Close pump door tightly; press RUN. Look for RUN or the droplet on the display; the pump is running.

Problem: The feeding has finished.

Solution: Turn the pump off. If food that should have been delivered remains in the feeding bag, contact your home care company for a replacement pump.

Problem: Your settings are incompatible. This alarm typically happens when you use the Interval setting and the length of one feed is greater than the interval set.

Solution: Verify you entered your settings correctly, and re-enter if necessary.

Problem: On the Infinity, this alarm will sound after 2 minutes unless the word RUN is on the display indicating that the pump is running. On the Kangaroo, a Hold Error will occur when the pump has been holding for 10 minutes.

Solution: Press RUN/PAUSE to stop alarm; press RUN again to resume feed. Look for RUN or the droplet on the display; the pump is running.

Problem: Pump is running out of power.

Solution: Plug pump into charger.

Problem: Pump error.

Solution: Make sure pump door is closed tightly. Press and hold ON/OFF until pump shuts down. Restart pump by holding ON for 3 seconds, then verify pump settings. If settings are correct, press RUN. Look for RUN or a droplet on the display; the pump is running.

NOTE: An Error Message may erase the rate, dose, and timing of the food being delivered. If you see 0.1 on the display when you restart the pump, you must reset the pump. If the pump does not restart or you are unsure of the correct pump settings, contact your home care provider or physician’s office.
