In 2011, Feeding Tube Awareness launched the first annual Feeding Tube Awareness Week. The second week in February was selected because of it's proximity to Valentine's Day since we love our tubies. See more information about our first Awareness Week.

Feeding Tube Awareness Week 2012
The goal of Feeding Tube Awareness Week it to spread awareness and educate as many as possible through Facebook status posts, notes, twitter, blog posts, email...basically however, you want to spread the word. The topics below are a guide. They will be posted daily on the Facebook Page but also encourage you to use them in your posts to others.

Topic: Why awareness is important to my family - What would be difference for me/my child if tube feeding was better understood?
Monday, February 6th
Topic: Why I have/my child has the tube they have now - a highlight on the medical conditions that require tube feeding.

Topic - Understanding Life with a Feeding Tube - Explaining a day in the life/daily routine of tube feeding and all it requires

Topic - How has your attitude/family/friends' attitudes changed towards tube feeding? What has awareness of the positive benefits done to change perceptions?

Topic - The need for greater awareness in the medical community - Explain a situation where a clinician didn't understand tube feeding and what was the impact.
(The goal here is to point out that awareness is needed among all audiences. Certainly there are clinicians who are well versed and expert in this area, however, there is a need for basic knowledge among a wider range of medical professionals)

In the summer of 2010, we launched the campaign to include a tube fed child on Sesame Street. As a leader in diversity and tolerance in children's programing for the last 40 years, we figured this would be an easy fit. It has been an uphill battle.
